Menu of Services

Headway WM currently offer several choices of service to people affected by a brain injury. These are based at Headway House and Leighton House.

Headway's services for people with acquired brain injury (ABI) are designed to help people reach and maintain their optimum levels of independence, access community activities and achieve a greater quality of life.

REGAIN - This is aimed at brain injured people who are ready to start to re-learn lost skills in a supported environment.  It will lead to people being able to access supported community activities and learn coping strategies for behaviours that may not be appropriate.

Provide activity sessions that can help them re-learn lost skills                                                                    Learn coping strategies
Provide an active social environment where people can practice skills
Introduce new activities and interests
Provide support to manage and improve social skills and behaviour
Lead to accessing community based activities with support

LADIES DAY - This is a programme requested by women and aimed at providing actvities and sessions aimed at femaile issues etc.

Activity session that can address ‘women’s issues’
Sessions devised to encourage empowerment of women
A quieter, ‘male free’ environment
Activities with women in mind – assertiveness for women training, beauty products, talks on sensitive issues etc.
Provide a service that Asian women can use
Opportunities to make friends with other women

ladies Day

DLS - This programme is designed to help BI people achieve goals in skills which help them become more independent in the home.

Meal preparation/planning
Laundry
Cleaning etc
Budgeting
Healthy Eating
Food & Hygiene certificate

NEW STEPS - This is a new programme developed to ‘move people on’ who have now reached a higher level, but perhaps are not yet ready for work.  The programme is designed to introduce clients to:-

Higher IT skills and use of the internet
More ‘user involvement’ over the activities in their programme
Individual projects
New sessions designed for the next level of development
Job preparation
NVQ support
An aim to get people who are able into ‘supported volunteering’
Reduced support for managing behaviours etc.

New Steps

ACCESS to leisure, social & education - This is aimed at brain injured people who are ready to start to re-integrating into the community, but who may still need a lot of support to be able to do this due to behavioural problems or other inappropriate skills. Headway provide the support needed to take them to the activity and support them fully to participate etc.

Provide access to activities that they would otherwise be unable to attend
Provide the support and risk management whilst at the activity
Introduce new activities and interests - a variety of activities and choices available
Enable the user to take part in the activity
Provide the transport to and from the activity
