What's been happening?

Sponsored Tandem Parachute Jump

On the 21st and 22nd May 2010, 21 brave people jumped out of a plane met up at Hinton Airfield in Northamptonshire and  launched  themselves out of a plane!
Amazing!!!
On leaving the plane they accelerated up to 120mph and covered each thousand feet in approximately five seconds.
On landing they were all almost speechless, it was wonderful to see their their faces alight with wonder and some of the comments made were:-
“Awesome!”
“I want to do it again….now!!!”
“Absolutely amazing”
“Everyone needs to do this it is incredible”
“Totally Awesome!”
“ I thought it would be good, but it totally surpassed my expectations!”
Family and supporters also came and we were incredibly lucky 220 and perfect blue skies! (Must remember the sunscreen next year.)
Everybody worked really hard to raise sponsorship and on the day we had a over £5000 pledged. A fantastic effort!
Because it was such a brilliant event we already have 25 people booked in to do the same jump next year. If you would like to participate let me know ASAP as it looks as though places will be limited.  ! first come first served !

DAY TO DAY EVENTS AT HEADWAY

Photography Group

The photography group have created a short film based on the well-known film ‘The Godfather’ which was chosen by the clients. The film took a month to make and consists of 2 scenes. This gave clients an opportunity to practice a wide variety of skills. The leading role of the Godfather was played by Fin Javanda, Fin had quite a few lines to say and suffers from dysphasia. Therefore he made a great achievement in being able to perform his lines. Clients who were not acting were able to practice directing the actors and props and even help to provide verbal cues for the actors. Overall the film was a great success. The group would like to say a special thank you to Roly Carline (care assistant)who allowed us to use his high tech video recording equipment and also spent some time editing the film in his own time. The pictures below show some of the filming process as detailed next to the image.

PUNJAB DRUMMING

Clients at Leighton House and Headway House both had the opportunity to try a taste of Punjab drumming and bangra dance during March.  This was a first visit to Headway and it proved to be very well recieved by everyone.  It was very noisy, very tiring, but lots of fun!

Many thanks to the skills of drummer Taj from Made of Music and dance instructor Sonni. Music Therapist Helen Aldred from the Birmingham Centre of Art also joined the team in April.  The groups look forward to many sessions with her.
